Breakthrough Ministries
Our mission at Breakthrough Urban Ministries is to demonstrate the compassion of Christ by providing neighborhood-based holistic services that empower individuals, families, and urban communities to overcome poverty, addiction and isolation. Based in Chicago, Breakthrough operates programs at our growing campus in East Garfield Park, a neighborhood on Chicago's west side. The programs include homeless centers and services for men and women, a street outreach to women in prostitution, and a youth & family outreach program.
The Night Ministry
Since 1976, The Night Ministry, a non-denominational, non-profit organization, has served Chicago’s most vulnerable. We accept people where they are regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or social status.
The Night Ministry is not affiliated with one particular faith tradition. The staff and volunteers come from a wide variety of faith traditions or no faith tradition, as do the youth and adults they serve. They provide our services to all, regardless of religious beliefs, in a welcoming and affirming environment. The “ministry” is one of serving others, being present with them.
Exodus World Service
Exodus World Service transforms the lives of refugees and volunteers. We educate local churches about refugee ministry, connect volunteers in relationship with refugee families through practical service projects, and equip leaders to speak up on behalf of refugees. The refugees we support are brought to the United States as legal immigrants and begin as wards of the federal government. They will be among us whether we help or not. What we do is help them integrate into the new world that will become their home. The end result is that wounded hearts are healed, loneliness is replaced with companionship, and fear is transformed into hope.
Protestants for the Common Good
Protestants for the Common Good educates and mobilizes people of faith to participate in political democracy for the sake of social justice and the beloved community.
“At its best, the human adventure is the realization of our common humanity. In this world, the opportunity to be creative is received from the achievements of others and so depends on the communities of which we are a part, and we make the most of this opportunity when we pursue in turn a distinctive contribution to those communities. Mutuality is the form of human flourishing, and human diversity is fundamental to mutuality.”
